Following significant weight loss, there is often failure of the stretched skin to tighten up.  Restoring the normal contour of many body areas following weight loss often requires removal or tailoring of the remaining skin.  Especially true for the abdomen, arms, and thighs, the restoration of the contours of those areas often requires the excision of large amounts of skin, with or without additional liposuction.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lift is surgery that removes excess skin and fat from your thighs. The goal of the procedure is to improve the appearance of your thighs by removing the “dimpled look” produced by cellulite. Some surgeons say the thigh lift procedure is more effective for the front and side thigh areas, less effective for the back and inside areas. The incision does leave a scar at the hip, but it fades in time and can be hidden by a bathing suit.

A thigh lift usually lasts several hours and can be an outpatient procedure or require a short hospital stay. You may be given local or general anesthesia depending on the surgical plan you and your doctor have developed. The thigh lift surgery begins with an incision in the groin area, near the hip. After the incision is made, your surgeon separates the skin on your thigh from the fat and muscle below by pulling the flap of skin upwards. Then, your surgeon removes the excess skin and stretches the remaining skin back in place.

Arm Lift

An arm lift, or brachiaplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed on the upper arm to remove the excess, sagging skin and fat that can make the arms look loose and flabby.  Arms can begin to sag for a variety of reasons, including weight loss and aging.

During the arm lift procedure, your Geisinger cosmetic surgeon will make incisions from your elbow to about your armpit.  Then excess skin and fat is removed, and the incisions are closed.  The end result is a tighter, younger upper arm appearance.

If you are unsatisfied with the appearance of your upper arms because the skin has begun to sag and look loose, you may be a good candidate for an arm lift, or brachiaplasty, procedure.  To learn more about arm lifts, contact The Cosmetics Program today to schedule your initial consultation.

Body Lift

When the body lift procedure is complete, your surgeon closes the incisions with small stitches and covers them with bandages. A small drainage tube may be inserted in your skin for several days to drain excess fluid from the body lift surgery
