Depending on the characteristics and severity of your scar, your doctor will determine what type of scar revision surgery will give you the most attractive results.  While some scars require removal of all scar tissue, others will require skin grafts to achieve the most favorable look.  Others may require Z-plasty, a method in which a scar is actually moved from its point of origin to a less noticeable area.  It is important to have scar revision surgery only after a scar is completely healed, to ensure the best results.  Laser resurfacing, a method of breaking up cells using laser energy, may be recommended to minimize certain types of scars.
