Ear sculpture may be performed on children’ whose ears have developed to a certain stage (usually between ages 4 and 14).  By having ear surgery early in life, patients can avoid the negative self-image or embarrassment that can come from having unattractive ears. 

Ear surgery typically lasts from 2 – 3 hours, and consists of remodeling of the external ear, and then the internal cartilage.  Your cosmetic surgeon will trim the cartilage and model the ear into its desirable position. The ears are usually set back, closer to the head, and/or reduced in size.  After the ear surgery procedure, you will wear a special bandage, followed by a support headband.  Incisions are made in the back of the ear, so any small scars will be hidden from sight.

As with all other cosmetic procedures, ear surgery involves a certain amount of risk.  Risks/side-effects may include: 

• Ear blood clot
• Cartilage infection
• Anesthesia reaction
• Excessive scarring
