Breast Implant Incision Options

Serving Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania
including Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, State College, and Danville

The Geisinger plastic surgeons at The Cosmetics Program offer an important benefit that patients may not enjoy at other centers – the freedom to choose. Because our experienced breast implant surgeons stay on top of new cosmetic surgery technology and state-of-the-art techniques, we are able to allow our Pennsylvania patients to decide for themselves which techniques are most suitable for them. Here, you are consulted for every decision regarding your breast surgery. You stay informed every step of the way, and our staff stays accessible for when you need them most.

During your confidential breast augmentation consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss a variety of incision options with a Geisinger plastic surgeon. Based on the size and shape of your chosen breast implant, and your desired results, your doctor may recommend a preferred incision choice for your surgery. While each incision option has unique advantages, there is no wrong choice – simply consider the benefits and decide which one is right for you.

Choose from four breast implant incision options:

  • Inframmary (breast crease) - The Inframmary incision is the most common incision technique. The scar is well-hidden under the breast, and the breast implant may be placed over or under the chest muscle.

  • Areola - The areola incision is a popular technique where the incision is made at the areola’s edge for a very discreet scar. The breast implant may be placed over or under the chest muscle.

  • Transaxillary (underarm) - The transaxillary incision is made in the cusp of the armpit, and the implant is tunneled into place. This is a popular choice because the breasts are left completely scar-free.

  • Naval - The naval incision is made in the bellybutton. An endoscope tunnels the implant in to place, and the implant is subsequently inflated as it is filled with solution.

During your breast augmentation consultation, your physician will discuss all breast implant and incision options with you. You will have the opportunity to discuss the benefits of each option, and view Before & After photos of former Cosmetics Program patients to illustrate the results with each incision option. Rest assured that any questions you have about incision options or the actual procedure process will be answered thoroughly well before your surgery date.
